10 Reasons To Start Pole Dancing This Year
It’s a new year, the time for goal setting and New Year’s resolutions etc so if pole dancing is something you’ve been thinking of trying then it’s the perfect time to take the leap and give it a whirl. Maybe you have friends or family members who are already involved in the sport, or maybe you’ve just seen some cool pole dancing babes on Instagram or Facebook and thought to yourself. “Hey, that looks like fun!” Whatever your current fitness level don’t be deterred, the most common reasons I hear from people for not trying pole dancing are “I’m not strong enough” or “I’m not flexible enough”. Guess what, neither was I when I first started, that’s why you start, to learn and grow in an environment with professionals who will give you all the support you need. Amazing levels of strength and flex aren’t required to enjoy pole dancing, remember there’s dancing involved, it’s not all mind blowing tricks and splits. Still not convinced, let me break it down for you with my ten reasons to start pole dancing.

How to structure your pole training practice session
We’re all guilty of it. We rock up to pole dance training with lots of good intentions but no real idea of what we want to work on. Then we spend half the time just standing around thinking of what we should be doing, or chatting to friends. If we want to get more out of our pole training sessions, then like any other work out, we need a plan of attack. I find it works best if I write down what I want to work on beforehand. Follow the same structure that you would in pole class with your instructors. There’s a reason that pole dance classes are structured the way they are. One for safety, and two, to optimise the training time available.

The Most Painful Pole Dance Tricks
Pole dancing is painful. The entire premise is built on the fact that you need to hold yourself off the floor by pressing your body into a metal pole. All pole dance moves are a bit painful when you first begin learning, but your skin and body adapts and most things become tolerable quite quickly. There are some moves however which just seem to bring the same level of pain no matter how many times you do them. There’s skin pinching and tearing Chinese burn style, direct bone on pole contact and grips in really sensitive places. If you ever master these moves, I think you just have to keep doing them consistently for eternity. I’m sure if you take a break for any longer than a week the pain will come bouncing right back at you while the pole dance gods laugh evilly in the background. Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to present the most painful pole dance moves of all time.

The best sites to shop for pole dance costumes
There’s a lot of amazing pole wear out there, but when it comes to costumes for competition routines you really want to be unique and stand out from the crowd. You’re scored on costume so it’s pretty damn important, you don’t want to miss out on a placing because your costume was just the usual training wear that anyone can buy. It has to be a statement. So I’ve scoured the internet to find the best places to scout out costume wear for your upcoming performances.

Pole Dance Competitions: What happens on the day? What do I bring with me?
You’ve done all the hard work, been training for months, or not if you’re one of those gifted people who can throw together a pole dancing routine in a month (I hate those people). You’ve bedazzled your costume to within an inch of its sparkly life, makeup and hair is booked after scrolling through Pinterest for endless hours in search of the perfect combination. All that remains is to actually put it all together and dance your heart out on stage. But what happens on pole comp day and what do I need to bring with me?
